Weekly Geek Rant #2

Yes folks, I've decided to make it a weekly feature (at least it gives me something to post about if I have a boring old week - a highly likely occurrance).

Once again, apologies to those who just don't care about such things...

Seems my rants are taking a comic-bent (the stories with pictures kind, not the funny-ha-ha kind) lately. This one is concerning Superman. In case you don't know, there's a new Superman film on the way - Superman Returns. Directed by Bryan Singer of X-Men and X-Men 2 fame. Awesome. Starring unknown guy Brandon Routh as Supes. No probs, I can deal with that. Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor. Even awesomer. Now, this week the released the first photo of the new Superman costume as it is in the new movie. Here it is:

Hmmm. Now, I don't hate the costume, but I haven't fallen in love with it either. Here's what I like about it:
The things I'm not so hot on:
Overall though, I'm not too displeased. Maybe some costume revision for the sequel can improve it a bit.

Look, up in the sky. It's a bird! It's a plane! No, it's...some guy in blue lycra with his undies on the wrong side of his pants.

Work, Work and More Work (of Different Kinds)

As I write, I am taking a break from working on my first Uni assignment for the year. It is due tomorrow, and I am hoping to have all the coding (it's a programming assignment - VB.NET for those who care about such things) and commenting done tonight, leaving documentation and submission for tomorrow (thankfully documentation for this assisgnment is quite lean).

Once this assignment is submitted, I'll be switching my attentions back to this site for a week or so. There a few bugs to fix, a few formatting things to change, and the odd page or two to create. More news on this front as it happens.

Following that, I'll be back to work on my next Uni assignment, as well as catching up on all the lectures and pracs that inevitably fall by the wayside.

All the while I'll still be going to work (at QUT) every weekday.

Work - no matter the type, you just can't escape it.

My First 'Geek Rant'

Well, something tells me that this is the kind of thing that you can expect lots of from me on this blog. To the non-geeks - I apologise. To the geeks (or those with some element of geekiness) - read on...

I'll set the scene for you: I and a friend (who shall remain nameless unless he says otherwise) are sitting in the Myer Centre, eating sushi in front of Red Rooster (as all the tables in front of the sushi place were taken). I look up at the Red Rooster menu, and notice that their current promotion is for Justice League figurines. 'Cool' I think. 4 to collect - no problem there. 'Let's see, there's Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Batm..what the? No Batman?!?!'

Now, I'm sorry, but not including Batman as one of the JLA figures to collect is just inexcusable. He's the unofficial second in command (Supes is the unofficial leader), he helped build the freakin' Watchtower, and next to Superman he's the most popular character in the DC universe! Unacceptable I say! Strongly worded letters of complaint shall be written and sent to Red Rooster management.

Or not...

It's...alive!!!

Phew. Well, it's been a monumental task (O.K. - maybe not so monumental, but it's also not a trivial matter to do up a whole new web site based around using another site's technology) but it's finally done. The web site is up and running. Now I can relax...

Hmm. Maybe not. As well as the usual tweaks and bug fixing that will inevitably need to be taken care of, I will no doubt be spending some time showing Kirsten how to be 'self-sufficient' in regards to creating pages for this site. Speaking of whom, I'm glad you like the site babe. It makes the effort worthwhile. I hope the rest of our friends (that means YOU if you're not Kirsten and you're reading this) like it as well and will visit frequently.

To end my first post, I thought I might give you people an idea of what you can expect to find from me on here. Kirsten will generally be doing a lot more, with pages on family history, trips, events, etc... so my efforts will usually be in the form of standard posts, rambling, ranting, venting, or being a massive geek boy on whatever takes my fancy at the time. However, I too, will plan to have some useful and/or interesting pages of my own on here - the first of which will be (drum roll please).... an electronic invitation to my birthday party in June (paper Star Wars party invites are hard to find). In related news, and at Geoff's not so subtle suggestion that it was a good idea, I will have a 'birthday registry' of sorts. But more on that soon.

For now, I bid all of thee farewell, and please visit again soon.

Oh, and May the Force be with you.

Matt.

P.S. (I promise not to end a post with *that* Star Wars quote again..)
