Wedding Music

Matt and I have been trying to pick music for our wedding. Trying is the operative word - it is a lot harder than we thought it would be.

We need to have a list of nice, soft romantic music for during dinner
Some instrumental stuff for the ceremony
Some slowish/jazzy songs for the first dance and for the first few dances after that
Some party/fun music to get everyone up and dancing

Matt says he thinks the sound is important not the lyrics. I think the lyrics are really important and should be suitable for a wedding (i.e. mostly romantic, cheerful, etc).

We need help!!

We would love any suggestions from people about what sort of music we should have. PLEASE leave a comment with an idea we are really stuck! We only have about 10 - 15 songs so far and I don't think that will get us through the whole night.

The Verdict

Went to the doctor today to get the results of my blood test.

Apparently what I had was a Streptococcus infection. It still doesn't really explain all of my symptoms from what I looked up, but I guess it tells me something. Anyway the doctor put me on antibiotics which seems a little pointless now that I am back to normal (where were they last week goddammit!?), but apparently if untreated in very rare cases Strep can cause Rheumatic fever and kidney problems. So better safe than sorry I guess.

I've decided to be glass-half-full today: I got to read three chapters of the book I bought today, thanks to the hour and 15 minutes I got to spend in the waiting room. The glass half empty statement of this fact has swearing in it so I have edited it out.

Matt's Graduation

Matt is taking advantage of the fact that he knows how proud of him I am, and therefore knows that I will do a post about him graduating from uni, so he doesn't have to bother posting about it himself. *Sigh*. Just goes to prove I do everything around this place, doesn't it! ;)

Matt and his friend Daniel had their graduation ceremony last night at the concert hall at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, Southbank. I was very proud of him, and he looked quite handsome in his academic robes. Don't get me wrong though. The ceremony was a bit boring (especially since Matt and Daniel got their degrees rather early in the proceedings with last names beginning with A and B - makes sitting through the rest a bit tedious). I think it may have actually been a bit shorter and more interesting than mine was which was a bonus. A few little things made it interesting though. There was a blind guy who received his degree with distinction - he got a lot of applause. Then there was the guy whose name was Fu Kin Ho, which made me start to laugh until I noticed no-one else around me was so I had to shut myself up. (If you're not sure what I'm laughing at, try saying the name fast).

After the ceremony and the obligatory photos, we organised for Matt to have a plaque made of his degree, said goodbye to Daniel & his parents and Matt and I went to a local Japanese restaurant for dinner (Matt was starving by then!). It was a pretty good night all in all. I was very proud to watch Matt walk across the stage and get his degree, and I think he was too!

Valentines day and me back at work

Well, I must have the weirdest disease ever. As I wrote in my last post, I woke up on Sunday with a rash and it was worse on Monday, when I went to the doctor. Yesterday the rash was a bit better but my hands and feet were really sore and red and swollen.

Matt has been wonderful since I've been sick and has been looking after me very well. He cooked dinner for me last night (Valentines day) and bought me some lovely gifts (a single red rose, some beautiful candles from Dusk, and some fancy chocolates!) as well as a card. I gave him a gift too but I felt bad that I couldn't cook for him like I normally do on Valentine's day. You really know someone loves you when they still love you even when you are all blotchy and sick. We had a lovely evening but I had to have an early night because I had aching hands and feet.

Today I had to go to work even though I'm still not back to 100%. I felt OK in the morning, my hands and feet were only a little bit sore, so I thought I would be OK. Plus I had a parent information afternoon thing planned for today so I couldn't really call in sick. Luckily I had a pretty easy day and the Deputy Principal even did my playground duty for me which made my day. The parent meeting went OK too but I always freak out and get all nervous at these things. Nobody seemed upset with me or anything so that is good!

By the end of the day my feet were KILLING me. They had swollen up again and I had trouble getting my shoes off. We had to do grocery shopping this afternoon too so by the time I got home from that I didn't feel like walking again for a LONG time. I think I will take another antihistamine and have an early night tonight and hope the swelling goes down before tomorrow.

Like I said, this is a WEIRD disease, whatever it is. Hope it goes away soon. Perhaps these things happen to us to make us really appreciate it when we are healthy. I definitely won't be taking good health for granted anytime soon.

I am not an animal! I am a human being!!

OK, but I *DO* look a little bit like the Elephant Man right now. OK that's a bit drastic. Quazimodo?

At any rate I am hiding myself away from the world and not going to work because I might scare the children.

On Saturday night we went over to Jules & Dan's place for dinner and had a lovely time, beautiful food, great company, new Lost episode, etc, etc. The next morning I woke up with a rash all over my legs and arms. We couldn't figure it out because there was nothing in the food the night before that I hadn't eaten before, and Jules & Dan hadn't changed their washing detergent or anything. Anyway I bought some antihistamines and hoped they would work.

Alas, when I woke up this morning, I found myself in said Quazimodo state. The rash has spread all over now even my face and has made my eyes go all puffy. I look like a freak!

So anyway I went to the doctor today. Besides being obviously taken aback when I took my sunglasses off (I am THAT good looking!) she said it is probably a virus because I had had a runny nose and sore throat beforehand, but I better take a blood test just to be sure it wasn't bacteria or anything. So anyway I'm sure Dan will be pleased that it wasn't his cooking!

Now I not only have a rash all over, but I have a hole in my arm from the blood test. Life is good!

I'm a leaf on the wind...

Been watching lots of Serenity stuff over the past few days, hence the title. If you don't know what I'm talking about, then go and rent (or better yet, buy!) the movie Serenity. It's cool. Anyway.

Matt has been in Hobart for the past few days for his Grandmother's funeral. My condolences go out to him and his family, particularly his dad.

I have spent a couple of nights all alone and I'm glad to have him back now. Makes you realise you much you care for someone when they're not there for a while. Not that I didn't really realise before. But anyway. It was OK most of the time but I was really pathetic getting scared by every noise and not wanting to turn off all the lights :P Of course practicality won out and I didn't actually leave any lights on. I did sleep on Matt's side of the bed though cause for some weird reason it made me feel closer to him. Made me think, I've never actually lived alone before.

Good thing I had the Firefly crew to keep me company.

P.S. I sold my bomboniere thingies on Ebay. Yay me!

The saga continues...

The bomboniere saga that is. *Sigh*.

Today I got the clear boxes and ribbon I ordered in the mail. The boxes look nice, but the problem is, some of them are too big. (I ordered two different sizes thinking one of the gifts would be too big for the small boxes - but it isn't and looks silly in the big boxes).

So I have ordered more small boxes and am selling the larger ones on ebay. If you know anyone who wants them, direct them there cause I don't have any bids yet. Hope they sell otherwise I have wasted some money. So annoyed. Oh well.

Bomboniere and Wedding Expo

I think I must be boring everybody to death posting about nothing else but wedding stuff, as nobody seems to be reading this anymore. You would think this would make me think twice about posting yet another wedding related thing, but no, I am a glutton for punishment. Goddammit I will only get married once (hopefully!) and I am excited about it. So there. Feel free to skip this if you are bored. You can look to your left and read Matt's post instead if you like. He has finally posted a new entry and I think I just saw a pig flying by the window.

Anyway.

Today I have been doing more wedding stuff! We went to a bridal expo in the city which was pretty good but probably a bit pointless since we have already planned so much. The last one I went to was a bit too early and this one was a bit late. Oh well. It was fun watching the fashion parades (Matt liked the lingerie section of course).

I have been making my bomboniere this weekend (the little presents you leave for guests on the tables). Don't expect much people, as I decided to make my own, and I AM CRAP. I always have these ideas of what things will look like in my head, and the finished product looks nothing like it. Oh well. I won't tell you what they are (can't spoil all the surprises!) but I will say everyone will have a "unique" present decorated by me. ("unique" meaning not only different to what you might expect cause no shop would sell something as crappily decorated as this, but also because they are all different slightly - which wasn't entirely intentional.) Hope I haven't confused anyone but hopefully I have lowered the expectations a bit so they don't look *quite* as crap as they might have otherwise.

Wedding Planning is FUN :)

I am having so much fun getting all the wedding stuff organised! I know I am getting organised rather early but as we are getting married in September (the most popular month for weddings) in the first weekend of the school holidays (the most popular weekend in the whole year for weddings) I think it will probably pay off that I am being so organised!

So here's what we've done so far:

* Booked the reception venue
* Tentatively booked the ceremony venue (can't lock that in until 6 months beforehand and will do that like, the DAY that I can)
* Booked our hotel room for the wedding night
* Bought both wedding rings
* Booked our honeymoon
* Chosen and booked our photographer
* Chosen my wedding dress (paying it off on lay-by). Got it for a bargain too!
* Chosen the fabric for the bridesmaid dresses (and the girls have pretty much picked the styles they want too - I think)
* Chosen and purchased my shoes
* Chosen the papers etc for the invitation and made up an example one
* Chosen someone to make our wedding cake and picked out a design we like
* Bought prezzies for the bridesmaids
* Chosen and booked a celebrant and put in our notice of intended marriage form or whatever it is called
* Booked a hair and makeup person
* Made up a guest list
* Picked out what we want for bomboniere

Stuff still left to do:

* Book a florist and choose flowers
* Finalise what we want for the cake (once we pick flowers)
* I need to choose and buy a tiara and veil
* Buy bulk amounts of papers for invites, and make them up
* Decorate and put together Bomboniere
* Plan what we are going to say at the ceremony & the order of the speeches & stuff for the reception
* Matt & the guys need to pick out their suits etc
* Post invites
* Buy lingerie
* Buy groomsmen gifts
* Visit with reception venue people to discuss menu, decorations, etc
* Pick out music
* Trial hair and makeup

and probably a whole bunch of other stuff I haven't even thought of.

Wow, now that I write it down like that maybe I'm not as organised as I thought...

My next thing on the agenda I really want to do is book the florist & choose flowers. Would my bridesmaids like to come with me? If so, when are you free?
