School Holidays

Thought I would give you an update on what I have been up to so far this school holidays:

Friday Night: Went out for drinks at Dicey Reillys at Garden City for Paula's birthday. It was a fun night! A word of warning though: NEVER drink a cocktail called a 'Kryptonite' even if it is on special for $5. Eww.

Saturday: Christmas day #1. Yep you read it right. We get two Christmases this year! Because we will be down in Tassie for Christmas day, Mum wanted to have a celebration with her before we leave. It was great! We had Christmas dinner and exchanged presents and everything :)

Sunday: We did a little bit of Christmas shopping (Matt is looking for some mystery present for me which he has apparently wanted to get me for ages, but can't find anywhere. It is driving me crazy to try to figure it out. And the worst part is, if he doesn't find it he will keep looking for next year so I may never find out what it is!!). On Sunday night we went out for drinks at Tricia's place (Matt's boss from when he worked at A&R). It was great to catch up with people, and Jules and Dan were there so I got lots of baby cuddles with Andrew!

Monday: Tried to get my Christmas cards finished but ended up giving up after about 3 hours because it was too hot to sit in the study anymore. I drove out to Jules and Dan's place to help Jules cook/keep her company/sit in the air conditioning. I also got lots of cuddles with Andrew again, and even changed his nappy twice! Matt caught the train home from work with Dan, and we all had dinner and played DVD Trivial Pursuit, which Geoff gave us the night before. It was really fun but the questions were harder than we thought they would be. I am so bad at the sport ones!

Tuesday:
That was yesterday, right? The days are now running in to each other. Well because we were out all weekend which is when I normally clean, the house was looking as though a bomb had hit it by Tuesday. I tried my best to tidy it up, but I have left the real cleaning for tomorrow (there isn't much point doing too much because it would need to be done again). I also finished making my Christmas cards and posted them, along with Trina's xmas present, and I also made Paula's Christmas present (I can't tell you any more in case she reads this!)

Today: I have mostly been running errands today. I tidied up a bit around the house this morning, including putting away clothes and even tidying up my underwear draw. I discovered I could wear clean undies for about a month without washing, I have so many, but I only have 2 bras that fit properly :P I threw some stuff out and put things in the draw neatly and now the draw can actually be closed. By now you are realising what an exciting life I lead! I also went to the plaza and picked up a few things, and also went to two different shops to pick up Matt's Mum & Dad's Christmas presents. If it cools down (it is 36 degrees in here) I will do some ironing and packing.

Well, that's the recap. There are only 3 days until we go down to Tassie on Saturday! Two if you don't count today or Saturday :) And because I have this mad idea that I will clean the house spotless from top to bottom before we leave so we can come home to a tidy house, I have a LOT to do over the next two days. It's too hot to do anything now though. I'm going to go and have an iceblock.

Did I mention it is hot here?

It's Bloody Hot

This is a picture of our fancy thermometer that my brother gave us for Christmas last year. Notice the temperature? You read from the bottom floating one - which tells us right now (5:30 in the afternoon) it is 34 degrees celcius. (That's 93 farenheit). Ok you can't really read it but the top little floaty thing says 36 and the next one down says 34. When I came home from work this afternoon there were none floating. In other words, the temperature was AT LEAST 37 degrees (98.6F) because if it was 36 then the little 36 thing would have been floating. Also the other day in my classroom it was also 38 degrees (and it is cooler inside than out). On that day I had playground duty on the oval, and had the pleasure of walking around in the sun at the hottest part of the day wondering what drugs the kids must be on to make them WANT to go outside and run around in the sun on a day like that.

Of course it is only just over a week into summer, so I'm sure it will get hotter than this. Plus it isn't just hot it is really humid and we have been getting storms nearly every night lately. Thank god we are going to Tassie this Christmas! Hopefully it will be cooler down there!

On a more cheerful note (than me whinging about the heat), today was the last day of school for another year! So it is the beginning of my holidays. 6 Weeks. Yay! Go on, whinge about how many holidays we teachers get. You know you want to.

HP4

After a particularly stressy day at work (about which I will not write here, as I will probably write something I'll regret), on Thursday night we went out to the movies to see Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. It was just what I needed! I really enjoyed it. I have decided to write the review, even though I know Matt is better at writing them, because we are still waiting for him to write the review of the last HP book. So I will do my best to tell you what I thought of the movie without giving too much away for those of you who may not have seen it/read the book.

Like I said above, I really enjoyed it. I knew going in that they would have had to cut out a lot from what was in the book, and I have to say I'm pleased with most of the choices they made - they pretty much stuck to the main triwizard tournament plot without any of the sub-plots (no house elves). The only thing I was disappointed in was I wanted to see more of the Quidditch World Cup. Also it seemed like the events from one to the next were going by really fast. Necessary evils I suppose.
I can't wait to watch it with someone (Mum) who hasn't read the books, to see what they think about it.

See I told you I wasn't very good at writing reviews. Anyway I enjoyed it. I am of mixed feelings about whether I am looking forward to the next one though - Harry was really annoying in Book 5 I thought.

Maybe Matt could write his thoughts in the comments?
