Kirsten's B'day Continued...

OK, so after I got home from school yesterday, my birthday didn't exactly go to plan...

It started off good - I got home and chatted to Trina for a while, but then thought I had better get over to Mum's place before she thinks I have had a car accident or something. The plan was to bring my presents (and a couple of bottles of wine!) over to Mum's place, and open them when Matt got home from work. Well it didn't quite work out that way. As I was leaving the house, I had an armful of stuff with me, and I closed the door behind me...

and realised that my keys were inside.

So not only was I locked out of the house, I also had no car keys and couldn't go anywhere. I called Mum and asked if she could pick me up, but she had had a couple of glasses of wine, and I didn't want her to risk it. Then I called Matt, and he said he would catch the bus home and I would just have to wait.

Last time I locked myself out, I was able to break in because I had left a window unlocked. No such luck this time! All the windows were locked and there was no way to get in without breaking something (not a good idea in a rental property!). So I sat out the back and waited for Matt. Time went VERY slowly - nothing to read, no music to listen to. Cursing myself for being such a bloody idiot and ruining my own birthday. Finally Matt called to say he was at the train station, but the bus he was going to catch doesn't exist anymore, and that he was going to walk home. From WACOL. That was it, I started bawling my eyes out. I called Mum again and told her that we probably wouldn't make it to her place after all that night. She said not to be ridiculous and that she would come and get us. Then I called Matt and he said he was in a taxi about a minute away, so I called Mum and got her just in time before she left the house.

Anyway I was still bawling my eyes out when Matt finally got home, but we made it over to Mum's place.

After opening my presents and having some pizza and a glass of wine I felt a lot better, (not to mention incredibly stupid for both locking myself out of the house and then letting it upset me).

Anyway, here is what I got for my birthday when I finally got to open my presents:

From Matt I got a pair of pajamas (Garfield ones :) ), a set of watercolour pencils (they come in handy for scrapbooking and my old set was just about used up, and didn't have as many colours), an oil burner and melt thing from Dusk, and the movie "Stand by Me" on DVD. From Matt's mum and dad, I got a stamping set (will come in handy for making xmas cards this year), and a beautiful round box that Matt's mum made for me, which had a little angel brooch inside it. From my mum (even though I told her not to get me anything because she already shouted me to the ballet!), I got a scarf and a little box of chocolates.

So anyway I guess my evening ended a bit better than it started.

I hope tonight is a better evening, but I don't think that will be difficult!

See you all at blu grotto tonight!

A Quarter of a Century!!!!

Yes, today I have reached the age of 25 :) Yes I know you all (or most of you) will probably be thinking how young that is, but think of Robyn, my teaching partner, who realised I am exactly half her age now!

I have had a lovely birthday so far - even though I've been at work, the kids have been very nice. I made some cupcakes with smarties to share with them, and they made me cards, sang happy birthday, and gave me hugs (They sure have learnt the art of sucking up! They wrote nice things on my cards like "You look younger than 25" and "you are the best teacher in the world"!). Robyn let some kids in the classroom at lunchtime and they wrote 'Happy Birthday' on the blackboard. Robyn gave me a bridal magazine for my birthday present, and I spent half the day looking through it and getting all dreamy :)

I'm now hanging around at school (writing this using school internet - naughty me!), waiting for a parent interview (how dumb was I to book an interview late on Friday afternoon on my birthday? I guess i have to understand not everyone gets to finish at 3 though!).

Tonight I am going to Mum's place for dinner and I will finally get to open the presents Matt got for me (I didn't have time this morning because I had to rush to work for another parent interview). Mum already got me my present which was a trip to the ballet to see "A Thousand and One Nights", which was fantastic.

I am looking forward (how can you tell? I haven't mentioned it before? ;) ) to going to Blu Grotto tomorrow night. Hope to see you there!

Kirsten's Recipe of the Week

Yeah, Yeah, I know.
Two posts in one day. I have no life, what can I say?
I have decided to start a new tradition - Kirsten's recipe of the week. I will put up one of my favourite tried-and-true recipes for all to try. Please feel free to leave comments about how you went, or to suggest recipes you would like to see! Matt is going to put a link to the page at the top (with the "Events" and "Family History" links), but until then, the address is:

Bebo Quizzes

Lately I have become a bit addicted to Quizzes on Bebo (It's a sort of online address book where you can add photos, journal entries and quizzes - www.bebo.com). I have created a couple of 'how much do you know about me?' quizzes on there which a few of my friends have taken. It is very interesting to see how much your friends know about you! Trina, Paula, Vi and Kim have all put quizzes on there as well, which I have taken (with varying degrees of success!). If you would like to test your knowledge and see how much you know about me, click on the link below and you can take my latest quiz! I don't think you have to sign up to be able to take the quiz. Hope everyone is well, and I am counting down the days till Blu Grotto on Saturday night!

Blu Grotto Booked

I have now booked Blu Grotto for 6:30pm for Saturday 30th April for my birthday bash. If you haven't already done so, please contact me to confirm you are coming, so I can call them later in the week with exact numbers. I am really looking forward to a great night!

I would also like to say a big thank you to all of you who have left comments on our site :) It is really great to see who is reading our posts. If you haven't left a comment on here yet, please do - otherwise how do we know you have been here? It is really easy to do and just a quick hello would mean a lot to us (particularly me, as I seem to check this website about 20 times a day - yes, I know I have no life).

Take care of yourselves and I can't wait to see you at Blu Grotto on Saturday night!

Slicin' and Dicin'

Matt and I recently had the pleasure of going shopping with some of our vouchers and money we got for our engagment.

We decided we really needed a decent knife set, and so decided to get a set of 6 Global knives. Matt of course likes them because they are from Japan. I just wanted some good knives for when I am cooking, and these ones are amazing. They are really light and easy to hold and SO SHARP. I hope I don't chop off any fingers.

Thank you very much to Jules and Dan and Peter & Joanne for the Myer vouchers, and to Aunty Debbie and Bev for the money you sent us. Also thanks to Geoff, Tina & Daniel for the David Jones voucher (we are going to buy the matching Global knife sharpener with that).

Matt and I hope that you will be able to come and visit and sample food prepared with our wonderful knives soon :)

Yeah, well not quite what our knives will be used for, but I had to have an x-files quote

Sydney album finished!!!!

Tonight I put the finishing touches on my scrapbook album of my trip to Sydney! I have been working on it for a while now and am glad to see it is finished. Now I can get some more of my heritage albums done. Unfortunately I can't put the pages on here for people to see, so if you would like a look, you will have to come and visit us! You can however read about what I did on my trip to Sydney and see a few photos here.

Family History Updated (Finally!)

I have finally updated my family tree with all the information I have to date. It took about an hour to input all the information into the program, and every time I went to save it the program crashed. This happened three times. I have finally done it and got it saved, and it is working!

A few of the people in my family tree have photographs, but not many yet as I don't have a scanner to scan the other pictures I have. If you have any family photos, I would love to get copies of them!

The other new thing is I have created a page with some of my Scrapbook pages. There aren't many on there and they are all old ones (again because I don't have a scanner), but I am looking forward to getting a scanner and doing a "scrapbook page of the week" or something similar.

Are any of my family (besides Paul and Dad) reading this website? Could you leave a quick comment if you are reading it so I know it is worthwhile to keep putting the family stuff up here?

I know I don't have many people's email addresses, so if you know someone in the family who might be interested, please pass on this website to them.

Kirsten's Birthday at Blu Grotto

I know I have mentioned it before, but I haven't had a lot of responses, so I will mention it again.

I am having my 25th birthday party at Blu Grotto in Rosalie on the 30th of April. All are welcome!! The more the merrier!! Please let me know as soon as you can if you will be coming - I need to know numbers so I can book the table. I will let everyone know the time when I have booked the table. So email me or leave a comment letting me know if you can make it. If you check out the Blu Grotto website, you can even see the menu before you get there!

By the way - No presents please

Updates and Comments

Yes, I know the website was only launched the other day, but I thought I would write down what has been updated since then - I have been doing a lot of work on it. If you click on the Events of 2005 link, I have updated the page with links to pictures and information about things that have happened so far this year, including pictures from my trip to Sydney. I have been trying to update my Family history page, but have been having trouble with GenoPro. Matt downloaded a newer version for me last night so hopefully I will have the new information on there soon.

Thank you to all of you who left comments! It is nice to look and see who has been checking out our little website :) Keep them coming. Oh, and please let me know if you are coming to Blu Grotto for my birthday! You can email or just leave a comment. Thanks!

Why "One in Five Billion"?

I thought I would explain why we decided to give our website the title "One in Five Billion".
Well, we were trying to think of a good name, and thought using a TV show or movie we both liked as inspiration would be a good idea. I immediately thought of the X-Files, and remembered this quote where Mulder tells Scully she is his "One in Five Billion" (meaning, she is the only person on the planet who doesn't think he is crazy). I always liked that quote, and when I suggested it to Matt, he liked it too.

I guess you could probably attach a lot of different meanings to this as well, which was one of the reasons I liked this as a title - Maybe One website out of five billion (well, I don't know exactly how many there are - maybe more than that!), or that Matt and I are each other's "One in Five Billion".

Thanks to all those people who have had a look at our website and left comments. Keep coming back!

Quote of the Day: (It's an X-Files one today)
Mulder: "Hey, Scully?"
Scully: "Yes?"
Mulder: "I love you"
Scully: "Oh, brother.."

Thank-you, Matt!

On my first post for our brand new website, I thought I would say a very big thankyou to my wonderful fiancee for setting all of this up. He has put a lot of work into it (mostly because I wanted a website), and has shown infinite (well, almost!) patience with me during the making of it. I am not very good at waiting for things, and I appreciate him putting up with me asking every 5 minutes how the website is going!

I would also like to take this opportunity to invite everyone to my birthday party, which is on April 30 at Blu Grotto. I am turning 25 this year - that's a quarter of a century!
